The end :)
Now I’ve just finished the book, or actually it was a couple of weeks ago, but I haven’t written the last blog post until now. Because of I’ve took some time to think about what I really thought of the book. As I’ve said before I’m a big fan of this books. But I must say that this was not one of the best. I really don’t know what it is but comparing to the others this wasn’t the best one!
I think that it was the act itself that I like about this one. It usually is a lot more exciting to read and it doesn’t always have to go well for the detectives. But in this one almost everything did go the right way. This one was more like everything was not as obvious as in previous books. You jumped through the cases and it was kind of well mixed up.
His language is as usually good. It’s not a book which is too hard and it has not a lot of difficult words. And if you don’t know the word you can easily understand it, you figure it out by understanding the context. For a student who read this book to learn more English and not just read it for fun it’s very good because you learn a lot of new words. Some usable and some unusable. I also like the way that he writes the way people talk in Botswana. In the conversations between people he’s not writing in “English-English”, it’s more like “African-English” which I find very well. You get another picture of the whole book, of course the descriptions of the environment helps to create a picture of the situations. But to read this “African-English” just adds it up. It’s nothing that is common in books and it makes it more interesting to read.
I like the variation in the book. Sometimes there’s a lot of humor, in the next chapter it’s the deepest seriousness, and in the one after that there’s love and friendship involved. I think this is good because you get a little bit of everything and there’s always time to read a book like this, happy as sad! You’ll never get bored of reading the same thing over and over, there’s a lot of variation. Not just the genres but the language, the act and the characters. I can’t say it’s a book for everybody, but I think that most people like to read this sort of books.
So I’ll give this book an okay score but not the best but that’s just because there are better books in the same series! Otherwise I would give this book a top score easily.
