Film vs Book

Comparing film and book.

The book has also been filmed. It’s not this particularly book but it’s anyway The No1 Detective Agency who has become a movie or rather a series on television.

Comparing these two is pretty easy. I read a couple of the books before I saw the movie and before I saw it I had a picture of the environment, sites and the characters. But after I saw the movie and then read the next book my pictures and imagination of how everything looked like was completely different. Of course you cannot have the same view of everything as when you have seen the film and that includes every book or film you watch, these two are almost different every time. That’s because it’s different things that’s make a book good comparing to a film.

But what I noticed most was that I perceived the characters in two completely various ways. I had my idea of them from the book and when I saw the movie they weren’t like this at all. But I like this, because in the next books I perceived them like they were in the film and that was kind of odd but it also made the book clearer. You don’t have to come up with everything by yourself, the film makes it for you and you can just focus in the plot.

I liked the film as well even if it wasn’t exactly in the area of my exceptions comparing to my perspective from the earlier books. It was a nice movie though, which I for sure would recommend!

The end :)

Now I’ve just finished the book, or actually it was a couple of weeks ago, but I haven’t written the last blog post until now. Because of I’ve took some time to think about what I really thought of the book. As I’ve said before I’m a big fan of this books. But I must say that this was not one of the best. I really don’t know what it is but comparing to the others this wasn’t the best one!
I think that it was the act itself that I like about this one. It usually is a lot more exciting to read and it doesn’t always have to go well for the detectives. But in this one almost everything did go the right way.  This one was more like everything was not as obvious as in previous books. You jumped through the cases and it was kind of well mixed up.

His language is as usually good. It’s not a book which is too hard and it has not a lot of difficult words. And if you don’t know the word you can easily understand it, you figure it out by understanding the context. For a student who read this book to learn more English and not just read it for fun it’s very good because you learn a lot of new words. Some usable and some unusable. I also like the way that he writes the way people talk in Botswana. In the conversations between people he’s not writing in “English-English”, it’s more like “African-English” which I find very well. You get another picture of the whole book, of course the descriptions of the environment helps to create a picture of the situations. But to read this “African-English” just adds it up. It’s nothing that is common in books and it makes it more interesting to read.

I like the variation in the book. Sometimes there’s a lot of humor, in the next chapter it’s the deepest seriousness, and in the one after that there’s love and friendship involved. I think this is good because you get a little bit of everything and there’s always time to read a book like this, happy as sad! You’ll never get bored of reading the same thing over and over, there’s a lot of variation. Not just the genres but the language, the act and the characters. I can’t say it’s a book for everybody, but I think that most people like to read this sort of books.

So I’ll give this book an okay score but not the best but that’s just because there are better books in the same series! Otherwise I would give this book a top score easily.

Characters!

I’d like to introduce and try to describe some of the characters personalities which I find important in the book.

Mme Ramotswe: She is the main character in this book. She is a very kind-hearted lady and very brave. She wants everyone’s best and thinks about the persons around her before thinking of herself. She is very honest and does not lie if it’s not necessary and if she has to lie it’s because of someone’s best. There’s not a single person that she does not love. She isn’t prejudicing anyone before meeting the person or talking to it and treats everybody the same way. She believes that everyone has the right to get another chance.  She’s very nice and honest, good at what she’s doing and always wants to get the truth to create justice.

Mr. J.L.B Matekoni: Here is another kind-hearted person.  But he’s far shyer than his wife and does not always dare to say what he thinks or likes. He doesn’t trust himself and doesn’t think he’s capable of doing things he doesn’t normally do. He wants justice as well and he’s in love with his work. There’s no one better than him at fixing cars and knowing how they feel. That takes a lot of his time but he has always time to listen to people who wants and he is a true helper!

Mma Makutsi: This is probably the smartest girl in (at least) Gaborone. She graduated Botswana Secretarial College of Gaborone with amazingly 97 per cent. No one has ever been close to that. She’s very proud of it and is never late to tell anybody about it. She’s not the best-looking girl but she is very effective at what she’s doing and is very curious to learn new things. As I said she’s not the best-looking girl and doesn’t really care about fashion as most of the girls at her age. But that doesn’t stop her from living her life. She doesn’t earn a lot of money with by her job but she loves it and is treated by respect which she doesn’t think is common at her age. That’s why she still works at the No.1 ladies detective agency.

Mr. Polopetsi: He tries his best with everything he does, despite being accused of something he didn’t commit. This makes his reputation look bad but he’s a fighter and will not give up. When he gets the opportunity he’s not late to pick it and proves very quickly to his leaders that he’s someone you can count on.
